Growing a Brand on TikTok

TikTok is a platform that I’m sure you’re already familiar with, whether it be through the number of controversies it has been involved in, through friends and family, or if you yourself are a user. While it has been around for a few years now and has been on a continuous uptrend with its popularity, it absolutely exploded in 2020, with approximately 800 million users worldwide according to DataReportal. It continuously tops charts in different app stores and has a very active user base.

If you aren’t already on TikTok, you should be. TikTok has proven to be just as useful in social media marketing as other social media services like Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. It has proven to be very useful in targeting younger demographics as 41% are young adults from ages 16 to 24. Many users have already converted their followers into customers by creating clothing brands, partnering with already established brands, and creating new products or services. TikTok’s emphasis on short form content makes it tailored toward capturing an audience’s attention quickly, which can be capitalized on when trying to grow a base on the platform.

It’s always a good idea to branch out to as many relevant platforms as possible. TikTok’s interface conveniently includes easy ways to connect with other platforms, such as Youtube and Instagram. If you already have an existing presence on those platforms, expanding to TikTok is very easy. Not only does this widen your reach, but it introduces a safety net. You shouldn’t put all your eggs in one basket as you never know what may be around the corner, and should your platform be negatively affected in any way, you will also feel a much bigger impact than if you had branched out. If 2020 taught us anything, it’s that anything can happen at any time, and if TikTok were to get banned, then already having a presence on another platform will make it much more manageable.

TikTok, like many other social media platforms, is primed for brand discovery and growth. Currently, I believe it has an advantage over other platforms in its incredibly large and active user base. Whether you are just starting out or already have experience with social media marketing, TikTok is a platform that you shouldn’t ignore.
